Before becoming a Massage Therapist and Reflexologist, Katherine Harris worked as a licensed clinical social worker in the mental health field for sixteen years, where kindness, compassion, patience, empathy, integrity and commitment were vital for the treatment success of mental health consumers. These values naturally translate to work effectively within the massage therapy field. Education, treatment, relapse prevention and rehabilitation with long term success were the key elements of her social work and remain the focus that has seamlessly transferred to her work as a massage therapist.
Katherine Harris completed a fourteen month massage therapy program through the Madison School of Massage Therapy with an emphasis on knowledgeable and ethical based practice. She provided over eighty-five hours of massage to the public in the school clinic setting and an additional thirty plus hours of out-of-clinic massage. She also became a Certified Registered Reflexologist through the International Institue of Reflexology during the summer of 2020.
She received extensive training in deep tissue massage, with particular emphasis on muscle energy and basic myofascial release techniques. Within this same curriculum, she received training related to the massage treatment of the following conditions: whiplash, plantar fasciitis, wry neck (torticollis), low back pain, upper cross syndrome, lower cross syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis), iliotibial band syndrome, adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder (frozen shoulder), shoulder impingement syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome and piriformis syndrome.
In her off time, Ms. Harris enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible. She is an avid hiker and globe-trotter. She has greatly benefitted from visiting over 50 countries on six continents and particularly enjoys combining hiking with traveling whenever she can. She is passionate about maintaining her own ability to remain active and, in turn, would like to assist others in doing the same – thus her enthusiasm for injury prevention & rehabilitation, health maintenance and sports massage.
Katherine Harris offers Swedish massage, deep tissue massage (which includes muscle energy technique, myofascial release technique, trigger point release, range of motion/joint mobilization and gentle stretching), pregnancy massage, hot stone massage, hand and foot Reflexology, and event massage (away from the studio) - including chair massage and table massage options.
Mrs. Harris custom tailors each massage treatment session to the individual and can combine more than one type of massage in a session to address the unique health needs of the individual, e.g. combining Swedish and deep tissue; Thai yoga bodywork and Swedish; deep tissue and hot stone; Swedish and hot stone, etc.
